10 sustainable Irish brands you need to know

Given how popular Irish fashion designers are around the world, here are ten independent sustainable Irish clothing companies you should be aware of.

Bambooth

“Realizations happen in the strangest of places and in my case it was in the bathroom while brushing my teeth – the handle that I was holding didn’t have to be plastic!

Just a few days later the first ‘bambooth’ had been hand-carved by Joe (who is an exceptionally good wood-worker!) and we were on our way to starting a new kind of adventure… the protection of our natural world – one of our greatest sources of inspiration” - Bambooth

Jiminy Eco Toys is an eco-focused toy company that sells and distributes the most environmentally friendly toys in Ireland and the UK.

Bébhínn

Designer Bébhínn McGrath grew up surrounded by creativity as her mother was a Dressmaker and Grandmother a Knitter so entering into a creative industry was a natural progression.

Native Denim

Native Denim opened its doors in 2018 at the Chocolate Factory due to a demand for quality and sustainable garments. They are proud to be rekindling what was once a thriving industry but sadly began to diminish in the early eighties due to “fast fashion” where price was valued over quality.

GROWN

"In 2018 I traveled to India where I discovered my love of yoga. Once I returned home to Ireland, I watched ‘The True Cost Movie’, a Netflix documentary exposing the fashion and garment industry.

The movie questions our approach to buying and consumerism, shows the difficulties and hardship endured by garment makers, factory workers, and cotton farmers, as well as asks us to consider who really pays the price of our clothing choices" - Organic Movement

FéRí

Our creations are mindfully made in small quantities to avoid excessive production. We believe in manufacturing garments local to where the raw materials (fabrics/ trims etc) are sourced.

Everything we create is 100% designed in Ireland including all of our prints and embroideries which are drawn and hand-painted by designer Faye Anna in the FéRí studio in Wexford.

AFORE AFTER

"We don’t claim perfection, our mission is to continue to make progress by doing more with less. With our mono-material system, we are incredibly proud that our products are manufactured to be remade into new designs in the future, while we explore partnerships in closed-loop textile recycling" - AforeAfter
